eSafety Label

The eSafety Label project is set up by the European Schoolnet, a European – wide accreditation and support service, for schools. It was launched with the goal of helping schools respond to the different challenges faced through the integration of online technologies. The eSafety Label project is targeted to reach schools, equipping them with resources to develop eSafety confidence, when online.

The main purposes for setting up this initiative was to address the global increase in every country, of young people carrying with them devices linking them to social network sites. These devices help them build their own online communities and create and share content. In this day and age, restricting the use of technology in order to protect young people is not only an impractical solution, but also counterproductive to their formal education and overall development.

To access the eSafety Label website, one must log on to www.esafetylabel.eu and register. Once registered, you can navigate freely the website and benefit from accessing further information and guidance available. The ‘Assessment Form’ is available from the ‘My School area’, whereby you can find further information about the assessment form, as well as the different steps required to be taken before submitting your assessment form.

About the Assessment Form

The eSafety Label assessment tool aims to show where your school stands in terms of responsible ICT use and provides you with a made-to-measure Action Plan to support you in developing optimal empowerment and safety for both pupils and staff.

The survey consists of 30 randomly selected assessment questions, covering aspects related to Infrastructure, Policy and Practice. Upon completion of questions, you are to consult with teachers, pupils and head of school, since all of them have a strong impact on the school environment. Once you have responded to all the questions, you are to submit your responses by clicking on the ‘Submit button’. Your Action Plan will be automatically generated and you can download it at any moment. This ‘Action Plan’ will offer you guidelines, resources and contacts with other schools, to help you attain excellence in this very important field of school performance. According to the Assessment results, your school can be accredited as a Bronze, Silver or Gold Label. Advancement to the next level is possible by completing the tasks assigned in the Action Plan.

While the Label remains valid for 18 months, one is advised to have the eSafety Label certificate renewed every year, so as to keep certificate valid with the pace of change.
